Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tears have been in the news recently. Most notably the Auburn basketball forward Chuma Okeke, who tore his ACL during his teams sweet 16 match-up against North Carolina. They went on to win the game 97 to 80 knocking UNC out of the 2019 March Madness Tournament. Last week an Auburn gymnast suffered bilateral leg injuries while competing in a competition. Although diagnoses of both injuries have not been officially announced it is speculated that she suffered an ACL tear (again, this is not official). These injuries are common among athletes and can be caused by a sudden shift in weight, twist, hyper-extending the knee and landing on a straight knee as in the case with the gymnast from Auburn.

As sports medicine professionals we have the ability to treat knee injuries like ligament tears seen with the athletes above. MoveForwardPT offers a full page on Anterior Cruciate Ligament tears.
