Recovery is rarely a straight line. There are tough days, good laughs, and moments when you realize you can do something you could not do a few weeks ago. That is what we are celebrating this National Physical Therapy Month.
When you are recovering from an injury, managing pain, or working to get stronger after surgery, the little things matter. Being able to take the stairs again. Walking without thinking about every step. Getting back to your favorite activity. And having someone who remembers what you are working toward when you arrive for your next appointment.
That last part is central to how Stoneking Physical Therapy and Wellness works. An independently owned practice serving Ewing and West Trenton since 1989, Stoneking aims to keep the same physical therapist directing your care from beginning to end. The goal is simple: give your therapist a clear picture of your progress and give you someone you know and trust along the way.
A local team with deep roots
Richard Stoneking has been a physical therapist since 1979 and in private practice since 1989. An Ewing High School graduate, Rich has worked in home health, hospitals, and skilled nursing settings as well as private practice. He has served in leadership roles with the New Jersey chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association and has lectured to physical therapy students across the state. Those experiences inform a practice that has stayed close to home.
His son, Brandon Stoneking, joined the practice in 2014 after earning his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2010 and working at Temple University Hospital. Brandon’s hospital experience included orthopedic care, neurological rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and training for people using prosthetics or orthotics after amputation. Together, Rich and Brandon bring different experiences to the same commitment to individualized care.
Before you meet your physical therapist, there is a good chance you will meet Jeanette. Her smile has welcomed people to Stoneking since 1999. She is the backbone of our practice, part of the Stoneking family, and someone who helps patients feel at ease from the moment they arrive.
A Little Humor Helps
There is another part of the Stoneking experience that is harder to list on a services page: the team knows how to have fun. Rehabilitation asks people to keep showing up, try difficult things, and sometimes laugh at the awkward moments along the way. A warm welcome, a little humor, and a team that enjoys working together can make those visits feel less intimidating.
The laughter does not replace the work. It helps create a comfortable place to do it. Patients can ask questions, celebrate small wins, and feel like themselves while working toward their goals. Stoneking takes each person’s health seriously without making every appointment feel serious from beginning to end.
Our community makes Stoneking
Our patients and Wellness Center members are a huge part of who we are. They bring their own stories, determination, encouragement, and sense of humor through the door every day. They cheer each other on, share a laugh, and help make Stoneking feel like a community. We are grateful they choose to spend part of their journey with us.
National Physical Therapy Month is a good reminder that progress does not always arrive as one dramatic moment. Sometimes it is a steadier walk, a stronger shoulder, or the confidence to try something you had stopped doing. At Stoneking, those personal wins are the point.
